In the last week there have been 2 instances that campfires have been abandoned without being put out. It is vitally important to put campfires out before leaving the area.
Our firefighters were out a couple of weeks ago working on FireSmart mitigation (Before the prohibition). Remember, effective as of 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Daylight Time on Thursday, March 28, Category 2 and 3 open fires will be prohibited across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre. This prohibition includes the Cariboo Chilcotin Forest District, the 100 Mile House Forest District and the Quesnel Forest District. When this happens, it’s usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it’s been deleted.

With the warm weather and the continuing warm weather we are anticipating the forest fuels are continuing to dry out quickly.
The current Danger class in most areas in the 100 Mile Fire Zone is Moderate. The fine fuels are especially dry.
Please remember to call 1-800-663-5555 (our Fire reporting line) when responding to a Forest, Brush or Grass fire. The sooner we know about a fire, the sooner we can assist if necessary, or provide investigation and follow up if human caused.
